Opening in November. Discover how World War One changed life for people in the Waitaki. The exhibition will be part of the upcoming WW100 centennial commemorations. The North Otago Museum is focusing on the stories behind the names and service numbers. The exhibition will include items from the North Otago Museum and the Waitaki District Archive collections.

Familiar names including Donald Forrester Brown VC and Isabel Clark are in the exhibition alongside less well known stories of bravery, strength and loss. The exhibition will include original letters, diaries and photographs. Discover how these people experienced the First World War as individuals. The exhibition title “From little towns in a far land” is a line from a Rudyard Kipling poem. This poem appears on the Oamaru First World War memorial on Thames Street.
