Otaki Remembers World War 1 exhibition's third stage features ANZAC troops at Gallipoli.

At dawn on 25 April 1915 Australian and New Zealand Troops (later to be called ANZACs) stormed ashore on the narrow beach (later known as ANZAC Cove) above which rose steep cliffs. For eight long months the troops fought a brutal unsuccessful campaign against well-entrenched Turkish forces before they were forced to withdraw after heavy losses. New Zealanders during their brief stay on the peninsula fought a number of fierce and bloody battles including Sari Bair, Chunuk Bair and Hill 60.

The exhibition runs in conjunction with Çanakkale – Road to peace out of war, a photographic exhibition offering a unique Turkish perspective of the War at Gallipoli.

Together these two exhibitions reveal a poignant insight from the ANZAC and Turkish trenches.
