World War One looms large within modern memory, although this presence is not always accompanied by historical knowledge. 2014 is the centenary of the start of the war, and this course provides a concise overview of this crucial part of modern history. You will learn about the causes, course and consequences of the conflict and examine major aspects (both on and off the battlefield) of the world that entered and fought the Great War. New Zealand’s place in, and experience of, the conflict is also covered in the course.
