Whilst the beaches of Gallipoli in 1915 may be the birthplace of the ANZAC spirit, this relationship has continued ever since. 'Capturing the ANZAC Tales' has researched and gathered memories from children of WWI veterans, lived experiences of WWII, and investigated trans-Tasman and 'Mother Country' relationships, as seen through the eyes of the residents at Waitakere Gardens Retirement Village. Over the summer holiday, local youth worked with residents to collect these ANZAC stories, & the youth have since worked with these to devise a performance to stage during the 2015 ANZAC commemorations. While this has taken place in Auckland, Griffith University in Brisbane has repeated the process (thanks to their own funding) & stories cross the Tasman digitally, so we have shared our best stories, making it a true ANZAC collaboration. The New Zealand project runs thanks to funding from The Trusts Community Foundation, with the support of the Waitakere Gardens Residents Association, and Applied Theatre Consultants Ltd.
