This event has a particular focus on the role of women in war. The exhibition commemorates the centenary of the sinking of the transport ship Marquette. Ten NZ nurses lost their lives alongside military personnel from the NZ Medical Corps and the British 29th Ammunition Column. Some survivors sustained serious injuries.

Historical and new archival material will be on display. The material will be of particular interest to families of those on board, scholars, historians as well as nurses and women. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet relatives of the Marquette Nurses.

A self drive map of local monuments to the nurses will be available.

White crosses in the beautiful gardens of the nearby Nurses Memorial Chapel at Christchurch Hospital will honour the nurses.
