Women of Empire takes us into the lives of around 30 women of Australia and New Zealand who were transformed by their experiences in the First World War.
This unusual exhibition highlights the stories of women with training who served as vets, doctors, nurses, Red Cross or motorcycle messengers as well as the ordinary extraordinary women who stayed home to look after families, livestock, businesses and made comfort clothing and food for the soldiers abroad.
This is 'herstory' of unique women who ran the gambit of emotions from fundraising, working, and mourning their losses.
Thames will be one of the smallest towns this exhibition will go to in New Zealand and for those into history we are offering a combined ticket for the exhibition and a museum visit. Thames has five museums and open at differing times and days - so take the opportunity to explore what our community has to offer.
You can either take in the exhibition on its own or you can add one of our museums to your day. You can choose from the Treasury, The Bella Street Pumphouse Museum, the Thames Historical Museum or the Thames School of Mines and Mineralogical Museum.
