How does an idea catch hold, and how can an individual voice reveal so much more than a single story? In 2014, a residency in Belgium enabled New Zealand young adult writer Anna Mackenzie to intensively research the First World War, including her own family’s experience.
In this session, she will share some of the letters between her grandfather and great uncle (pictured) that led to her discovering a story crying out to be told; a story that grew into her novel Evie’s War.
