Exactly 100 years ago at 5:30pm NZ time (7:30am French Time) whistles blew along the Western front as a signal to the troops to go 'over the top'; this was the start of one of the bloodiest battles of the Great War that was to last 141 days, the Battle of the Somme.

This Remembrance Service will start with a trench whistle blast along with thousands of other whistles being blown at the same time in the UK and Europe. There will be a small WW1 exhibition including colouring-in for kids and the opportunity to purchase a special edition Somme Battlefield Ale (only 350 worldwide - drink in over 18's only) and the Somme 1916 Edition of Triumph on the Western Front - Diary of a Despatch Rider with the ANZACs 1915 -1919. Profits raise funds for RRC and the RSA.
