On Armistice Day, Saturday 11 November, there will be a public presentation in the Services Section of Karori Cemetery, about the lobbying and rationale behind the creation of a special area within the wider cemetery where men who fought overseas but died in Wellington, or were in training prior to departure, could be buried with their comrades.
Background stories about some of the men, and of the range of military units they fought with, will be covered.
Gather at the Lychgate, 200 metres from the main gates of the cemetery, just before 1pm.
Everyone is welcome.
The speaker is Barbara Mulligan, sole operator of Karori Cemetery Tour (www.karoricemeterytour.com) and Co-ordinator of the 1918 Influenza Karori Project.
This event is weather dependent and will not proceed if there is pouring rain combined with howling wind! Participants will need to be able to stand - on grass - for the duration.
