On 12 October 2017, a national commemorative programme will be held in Wellington to mark the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele.

It was during this battle that New Zealand experienced it's darkest day. On 12 October 1917, an attack on Bellevue Spur resulted in 843 deaths in a single day and approximately 1860 wounded. This devastating loss of life remains the highest one-day death toll suffered by New Zealand forces overseas.

The national commemorative programme will begin with the national ceremony at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park, Wellington at 3pm. All are welcome to attend.

The ceremony will be live streamed on the WW100 website and Facebook page. In the event of adverse weather, the public would be encouraged to watch the commemorations at Te Marae Rongomaraeroa, inside the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa (Te Papa).
