After the First World War, Elizabeth Pinfold was awarded the Belgian Queen Elisabeth Medal along with 32 other women in New Zealand. The Medal was given to those women who had dedicated themselves to the relief of Belgian civilians and soldiers during the war.

Elizabeth Pinfold is buried in the Karori Cemetery and at 2pm on July 21st, her restored grave and plaque will be unveiled by the Belgian Ambassador along with other dignitaries.

Over the course of the war, tens of thousands of pounds in donations and clothing and comforts were sent from New Zealand to needy Belgian refugees and military.

Four generations of her family will travel from all other New Zealand to participate in this occasion and members of the public are invited to attend this event.
