On 4 October the 3rd Otago Infantry Battalion led an attack for the first time and surged triumphantly up the slope at Gravenstafel Spur.
A week later their comrades in the 2nd Battalion were set to do likewise at Bellevue Spur but were slaughtered in New Zealand’s greatest military disaster. This talk by Seán Brosnahan will examine the two attacks and examine the dramatic contrast in their fates.
