Our service on Sunday will recognise the centenary of Armistice Day, and reflect on our commitment to peace: through liturgy, song and prayer. Near the conclusion, there will be a fanfare on the organ, followed by the congregation participating in a 'Roaring Chorus',

This weekend is also the commemoration of 150 years since the events at Matawhero, which resulted in the deaths of over 70 Maori and Pakeha, and was part of a nearly a decade of armed conflict in the eastern North Island. This resulted in major land loss by many Maori, and still casts a shadow of the Gisborne-East Coast district.

During our service we will focus on the effects of violence and war, particularly women and children, frequently the innocent victims of violence.

Immediately following the service we will lay a wreath at the World War I memorial on the church site (pictured - on the corner of Palmerston Road and Derby Street).
