If there is an area of Auckland conducive to the creation of legends, it's the West. It's the type of place that has always attracted those seeking something – whether fame or fortune, refuge from society norms or a different path.

This exhibition arose from a Waitākere City Council project that put up billboards at Henderson Station to instil a sense of place. These visual stories about some extraordinary West Aucklanders are worthy of legendary status. They have been rendered by modern illustrators, some Westies, who themselves have become national treasures.

We will also have our Family History experts to talk with and some West Auckland family histories and video footage on display.

You can share your knowledge about a war service person's life and help us improve the Auckland Museum Online Cenotaph by adding directly to the service person's record page using the Digitisation Kiosk we have on loan over Auckland Heritage Festival.

You can contribute information about the person's war service including digital copies of photos and documents, along with details about his or her civilian life and enlistment and subsequent life events.

Brought to you by West Auckland Historical Society.
