New Zealand will mark the centenary of its last significant action in the First World War with a national ceremony in the Hall of Memories at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park on 4 November 2018.

The historic fortified French town of Le Quesnoy, under German occupation from 1914, was famously liberated by the New Zealand Division on 4 November 1918. Although there were minimal civilian losses, more than 100 New Zealand soldiers died during the battle around Le Quesnoy.

To this day, the town of Le Quesnoy continues to mark the important role that New Zealand played in its history. Streets are named after New Zealand places, there is a New Zealand memorial and a primary school bears the name of a New Zealand soldier. Visiting New Zealanders are sure to receive a warm welcome from the locals.

Public access to the ceremony will be restricted due to the limited space inside the Hall of Memories. The ceremony will be live streamed on the WW100 Facebook page.
