Leys Orchestra proudly presents a free family concert featuring music from Auckland a century ago, including songs and piano music from yesteryear.

In a time not long ago, people made their own entertainment, and movies were accompanied by live orchestras. Of the many orchestras that competed for audiences in Auckland's vibrant music scene a century ago, only Leys Orchestra remains to preserve and keep alive this wonderful heritage for today's audiences.

Orchestral items featuring characteristic novelties from yesteryear, such as "Cinderella" and Sullivan's "The Lost Chord", evoke the nostalgia of a bygone era.

The programme also showcases some songs and piano music by father and son Raimund and Eric Pechotsch, who lived, performed and composed in Auckland.

The background of the music and lives of the various composers are illuminated during the programme, revealing colourful life stories that sometimes led to national headlines and controversy.
