Arvo Part's The Beatitudes | Morten Lauridsen's Lux Aterna - Joseph Haydn Mass in Time of War - Paukenmesse.

This contemplative programme with choir, soloists and orchestra, explores the beauty and power that music can offer in the darkest of circumstances. Part’s setting of The Beatitudes is one of only a handful of his works composed in English.

Taken from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, as found in Matthew 5:1-12, with each verse stating a godly quality and the blessing attached. Morten Lauridsen composed his requiem, Lux Aeterna, in response to the death of his mother. Its five movements each reflect on biblical light and blend ancient, renaissance, romantic, and modern music styles into a deeply moving humanism.

Haydn’s Paukenmesse, so-named for its dramatic use of timpani, dates from a time when Europe was shrouded in conflict and is one of his most popular Mass settings.

With choir, soloists and Hawke's Bay Orchestra, conducted by José Aparicio.

Suitable for Students and Adults.
Tickets available from Ticketek and door sales, cash or eftpos available.
